“I am always searching for more light and space.”

430 West Colorado Ave.

The property at 430 West Colorado Ave. represented a truly unique opportunity for both client and architect. The 430 house originally built in 1896, shows it’s age and historical significance as one of only two properties in Telluride to still have zero front setback, which both the client and architect wanted to keep. The project brief included a complete renovation of the existing historic house, as well as adding a connector and new addition on the back of the lot, making the house comfortable for the family of five. To keep the true historical character and design of the building, the entire frame was lifted off of the foundation so that it could be moved 22” and the crumbling random rubble foundation could be rebuilt. The move allowed the client to avoid installing exterior fire sprinklers and, at the same time, rebuilding the front façade to match historical photographs. The interior was finished with intricate detailing throughout that pays homage to the historical time and location of the original house.
